A series of open-air exhibitions in three museums, including TAMAT, to question our experiences of borders, intimate and political, present and past.

>> INTERSECTIONS

In the context of the exhibition Intersections, TAMAT has highlighted a series of pieces from its collections on the theme of Border. The works, from the Middle Ages to the present day, illustrate the concept of the border in the broadest sense of the word, be it aesthetic, technical, philosophical, social or political. Each work tells a story, that of its creator and of the era in which it was created, and is closely linked to the sensibility and context of the contemporary world, delivering messages of identity, frontier and freedom.

Invited by TAMAT, the plastic designer Olivier Reman presents new creations, including a work with tricolour crochet and a photograph that raises questions about the history of Belgium.

For the occasion, the heraldic tapestries with the arms of Adrien de Croÿ, recognised as a ‘Treasure’ by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, are highlighted as well as other old works.

On the second floor, a huge carpet attributed to the Royal and Imperial Manufacture Piat Lefebvre of Tournai (1779-1887) is on display. This is an opportunity to retrace the message it conveys and the history of this prestigious art industry in the Napoleonic era, thanks to numerous external loans.

How was national history written in the aftermath of the revolution? What symbols and colours are used to adorn it? How are the myths and historical figures that have formed the imaginary identity of Belgium evolving today? These are all questions raised by the exhibition.
