TAMAT is honoured to present liturgical ornaments kept in Tournai Cathedral. This exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Friends of Tournai Cathedral, the UCLouvain and IRPA. These vestments are cult-like in more ways than one. These sumptuous pieces, embroidered with silk, gold and silver thread, dazzle with their sparkling brilliance.

Wisely folded and stored in the darkness of the sacristy of Tournai Cathedral, these ornaments evoke an imaginary world that today seems rather remote, not to say exotic: that of the pomp and grandiose luxury of ancient religious celebrations. It is therefore important to appreciate their richness and beauty while placing them at the heart of the rites in which they take on their full meaning.
