For 40 years, one of TAMAT’s major axes has been to accompany and support emerging creation by offering grants to carry out artistic research that culminates in a group exhibition and the publication of a catalogue. As a result of Corona, the 2020 selection has been extended to 2021 in order to allow the artists to carry out in-depth research and to prepare for the moment of exhibition in a serene manner.
This is the culmination of almost 24 months of intense exploration by the beneficiaries of TAMAT’s research grant, which for some of them will mark a decisive turning point. The result of in-depth work guided by the entity’s artistic advisors, their reflections are on display to affirm the decompartmentalisation of disciplines.
This exhibition marks the end of an unprecedented journey for most of the participants around the multidisciplinary textile practice, of which TAMAT is today an essential place of reflection to better respond to the challenges of popularising contemporary arts among the general public.
The exhibition offers a striking retrospective of reflections by committed actors in the art world, whatever their initial prism: sculpture, painting, ceramics, photography, styling, engraving, drawing…
A true incubator of talent, TAMAT began its activities in 1981 with an initial focus on tapestry techniques, before gradually broadening the scope of its catalogue to include multidisciplinary textile practices. A unique opportunity in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, this grant has allowed selected artists to experiment with a new approach to their art through the medium of textiles for several decades.
The exhibition marks the culmination of this artistic journey and presents the many avenues explored, which are also recorded in a rich catalogue for the occasion.
